Five markhors recovered from MQM office in Korangi

KARACHI: Five Markhors were recovered after a raid at an office of the Mutahida Quami Movement (MQM) in Korangi area of Karachi, ARY News reported.

There were taken into custody by wildlife services and handed over the Edhi animal welfare services located on Super Highway.

The markhor (Capra falconeri) is the national animal of Pakistan. The wild goat is also found in northern Afghanistan, south Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, parts of Kashmir and the Himalaya mountains.

It is classified  as an endangered species which means  that it is in danger of facing extinction in the near future if conservation efforts are not maintained. The global population is estimated to be less than 2500.
