Five rounded up in Karachi operations

KARACHI: Police arrested five suspected persons in raids in various areas of Karachi, ARY News reported on Saturday.

According to police sources, three robbers were arrested after an encounter in Landhi area of the metropolis.

The robbers were engaged in looting the passersby when police personnel challenged them and arrested them after exchange of fire, police officials said. Illegal weapons, looted mobile phones and cash were recovered from the arrested men.

Meanwhile, two alleged thieves were rounded up from Manghopir area. The arrested suspects were members of an inter-provincial motorcycle thievery gang.

A stolen motorcycle was also seized from the possession of the alleged thieves.

The law enforcement agencies in a targeted operation led by paramilitary Rangers have arrested hundreds of terrorists and other criminals from Karachi.

The operation launched in September 2013 by paramilitary Rangers with the assistance of police and intelligence agencies to rid the city from targeted killings, extortion, terrorism and kidnapping for ransom.
