LONDON: British actor Peter Vaughan, who was famous for his roles in Game of Thrones and Porridge, has passed away today at the age of 93, British media reported.
He has played standout roles in several movies for silver screen including Zulu Dawn (1979), The Remains of the Day (1993) and The Life and Death of Peter Sellers (2004). He has also worked for mini-movies and was still performing past age 90.
Vaughan was famed for his role as old Maester Aemon blind master of the Night Watch who was sympathetic to Jon Snow in HBO’s Game of Thrones. He appeared in the first five seasons of the show from 2011 to 2015.
Earlier, he played Harry ‘Grouty’ Grout in Porridge and appeared in TV shows including Citizen Smith and Chancer.
The news of his death was confirmed by his agent Sally Long-Innes. he said: “This is to confirm that very sadly Peter Vaughan passed away at approximately 10.30 this morning. He died peacefully with his family around him.”
