Gen. Raheel Sharif calls on Sri Lankan commander

COLOMBO/RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Raheel Sharif called on Lieutenant General A.W.J.C De Silva commander of the Sri Lankan Army, ARY News reported.

During the meeting with Sri Lankan army chief, matters of professional interest, ways and means for further enhancing bilateral defence ties with particular reference to mutually benefiting from each other’s experience in fighting terrorism, were discussed.

Srilankan Army chief praised Pakistan army for its professionalism, and successes in Operation Zarb-e-Azb for bringing peace and stability in the region.

General A.W.J.C De Silva thanked General Raheel sharif for timely and much needed support during Koslandawatta – Meeriyabedda devastating mudslide in Budhala, Sri Lanka last year.

General Raheel Sharif is on an official visit to Sri Lanka. On arrival at Army HQ, General Raheel Sharif was presented guard of honour by a smartly turned out contingent of Sri Lankan army.

Later, General Raheel Sharif was given detailed briefing about operational and training aspects of Sri Lankan army.

COAS also called on Vice Admiral SAMJ Perera, Commander Sri Lanka Navy at Naval Headquarters on matters of mutual interest.
