Geo/Jang Group served notice for fanning sectarianism

ISLAMABAD/KARACHI: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Monday served a legal notice on Geo/Jang Group for fanning sectarianism and religious intolerance through a TV programme, ARY News reported.

Pemra issued notice to Geo/Jang Group after receiving complaints by the public against the program ‘Naya Pakistan’.

Notice said a large number of masses strongly reacted to the program anchored by Talat Hussain on February 22 on Geo News.

The Pemra spokesman said that program ‘Naya Pakistan’ is in contravention of laws defined by the regulatory body.

He said that Pemra viewed the program as a source of spreading sectarianism and religious intolerance, while it also hurt sentiments of the people.
