German Chief Officer PIA working without security clearance

KARACHI: It has been around three months since Chief Operating Officer (COO) PIA Bernd Hildenbrand has not been given security clearance while Pakistan International Airline (PIA) does not seem to be bothered by it, as he has been serving in the national flag carrier airline since February 2016, ARY News reported.

It is pertinent here to mention that Bernd is a German national and he has also served in an Indian airline as vice president from 1994 to 1996.

One of the four main conditions of appointments is security clearance and police verfication from appropriate authority for this senior post of PIA, which has been overlooked in this matter and could lead to any serious untoward situation.

His appointment still has to pass security clearance by Intelligence Bureau and the special branch, however it could not be availed nonetheless several reminders sent by the PIA management.

It was the responsibility of board of investment to get security clearance for him.

The condition of graduation for German national has also been ruled out in this COO PIA case.

He has signed a contract of two years period – from 12-02-2016 to 11-02-2018 – with a hefty amount of salary.

PIA spokesperson said Bernd has been hired on the basis of technical qualification in the field of aviation and diversified experience of airline industry. He was found the most suitable one amongst the candidates who had applied for the job.
