Global threat needs global response: Gen Sharif

RAWALPINDI/ROME: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Wednesday gave Pakistan’s perspective on international security at the Centre of International Study, Rome, ARY News reported.

The DG ISPR in his tweet said, the perspective laid forth by the COAS was widely accepted and appreciated by the audience, intelligentsia and Italian senators.

During the address, the army chief said Pakistan and Afghanistan are placed uniquely and inseparably, and that peace in one country is not possible without peace in other.

“Pakistan stands optimistic as it has shared destiny with Afghanistan and is making sincere efforts in this regard,” he added. “International community acknowledged our efforts, however there is a need to beware detractors, spoilers challenging both Pakistan and Afghanistan for peace and prosperity of the two neighboring states.

Gen Sharif continued further saying Operation Zarb-e-Azb a comprehensive concept against terrorism, which will ensure terror-free Pakistan and the region.

All major operations progressed well, last few places being cleared, he added.

Expressing his resolve, the COAS said Zarb-e-Azb will ensure peace in Pakistan and beyond, while terrorists won’t be allowed to re-establish.

“For world, terrorism might be a conflict, but for us it’s a war of survival. Our enemies stoking terror to destabilize our country, but we are determined to defeat them,” he asserted.

“Terrorism has attacked our common roots, however global threat needs global response. Only together can we win this war.”
