Govt decides to amend Senate polls voting procedure

The cabinet has decided to hold polls with show of hand to avoid horse trading, sources said.

The meeting expressed apprehensions over reports about horse trading in Senate polls scheduled to be held on March 05.

The meeting decided to amend the procedure of the polls to change the secret ballot vote with ‘show of hand’. A special committee was formed in the meeting to convince political parties over the amendment in the law to change the voting system. The committee comprises of Attorney General Salman Aslam Butt, Khawaja Zaheer and Anosha Rehman. The committee members will begin contacts from today with other parties over the issue.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the meeting observed that the horse trading violates the privilege of the parliament adding that the amendment in the law will not be objected by any side.
