Govt meetings, Tharparkar deaths go parallel

MITHI: The Sindh government may have called a cabinet meeting to mull on measures to control famine-related deaths, but it failed to have any immediate effect as another child died in drought-hit Tharparkar, ARY News reported.

The death toll in last 45 days has reached 55. Opposition parties, mainly the MQM, slammed the PPP-led Sindh government and said Thar natives had been left to fend for themselves in this crisis situation.

Most of the children are admitted at Civil Hospital Mithi and latest death was also reported from the same hospital.

In a briefing to media yesterday, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said people were being died in Thar after getting treatment from unskilled maids and not the starvation.

He said the former MQM health minister Dr. Sagheer Ahmed never visited Tharparkar during his tenure previously.
