Govt planning for Kalabagh, other dams: Asif

The proposed hydropower project on River Indus near Kalabagh has been vehemently opposed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh provinces in the past and provincial assemblies have also passed unanimous resolutions against the contentious project.

According to ARY News, the minister in a written reply during Question Hour in Senate on Tuesday informed the house that Kalabagh Dam will be built along with other hydropower projects.

He said that WAPDA has prepared a comprehensive plan to tap water during high flow season and utilize it during lean season for agriculture and generation of electricity.

He said for this purpose, a number of projects are under consideration including Drawar Dam, Nai Gaj Dam, Kurram Tangi Dam, Naulong Dam and Diamir-Bhasha Dam besides a number of projects ready for implementation.

The minister informed the House that under a scheme small dams are being constructed in Balochistan and in rain fed areas of Punjab.
