Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly on Monday, the minister guaranteed full support to the Sindh government to investigate recent video leaks of undertrial   prisoners including former minister for petroleum Dr Asim Hussain.

He said, the issue needed to be addressed as it is influencing judicial proceedings and forcing undue media trials.

Regarding Khalid Shamim’s video, arrested by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the minister said his ministry is conducting an inquiry into the matter and will soon make the report public.

He said instead of political point scoring, provincial governments should also take some responsibility for the video leaks issue.

“We must come together and devise a way forward to curb such incidents,” said Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.

The minister has also written a letter to the provincial government of Sindh offering support on the issue and has asked Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to play its role.

Dr Asim Hussain in a leaked video statement recently hurled startling allegations at former president Asif Ali Zardari’s foster brother Owais Muzaffar alias Tappi saying the later was involved in all sorts of corruption and was also the ‘working’ chief minister of Sindh during the second term of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
