Gunmen attack: PIMS doctor succumbs to bullet wounds

ISLAMABAD: The head of the cardiology department at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), who was shot and critically injured last week, breathed his last today, ARY News reported.

Prof Dr Shahid Nawaz Malik was attacked in the premises of the hospital on February 14. Prof Malik was targeted when he came out of the private ward and was walking towards his Sports Utility Vehicle.

Two men appeared in front of the cardiology ward, adjacent to the private wing, and one of them fired a bullet on the doctor and escaped.

Nurses and doctors had also boycotted their duties at the hospital in protest against attack on Dr. Malik. They blamed the police for negligence and failing to provide adequate security to doctors and medical practitioners.
