CPEC materialisation is beginning of a new era, says PM

GWADAR: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said the initiation of trade under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor has marked beginning of the new era.

Addressing  a ceremony of departure of the first mega pilot trade cargo at Gwadar Port on Sunday, he paid tribute to 40 personnel of Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) who died during construction of the CPEC projects in difficult and sensitive areas.

He said enemies of CPEC are the enemies of Pakistan. Roads and infrastructure built under the economic corridor will bring prosperity in erstwhile volatile cities, he added.

The Prime Minister also praised Army Chief General Raheel Sharif for his personal interest in all these projects.

The Prime Minister said it is an historic day marking the materialization of the vision and idea of one belt one road. He said CPEC is aims at integrating development and commerce of various regions across Asia and Europe.

Pakistan will become hub of trade through CPEC, he maintained. “Our vision for Gwadar is not just a seaport. We are working to transform Gwadar into a port city.”

“People of Balochistan will benefit from this.” We will preserve harmony for social and economic development.

He was of the view that fruits of developments must reach those who brave poverty. He also announced establishment of vocational training institute and University for Gwadar

“CPEC is for entire Pakistan. Whole nation is united to make CPEC a success.”

‘Local people to get job with completion of Gwadar port’: Chinese ambassador

Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Sun Weidong said the day is very significant for CPEC and to China Pakistan relations. He said it is for the first time that a convoy successfully passed through the western part of Pakistan from north to the South.

He said it is also for the first time that the Gwadar Port is exporting containers to the overseas destinations.  It proved that the Port has the resources, design and handing capacity.

He said the trade convoy is an example of the spirit of mutual cooperation, joint construction and mutual benefit and win situation of both the countries. He said local people will get job opportunities with the completion of Gwadar port.

Meanwhile, the country’s top political and military leadership are taking part in the event including Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Balochistan Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai, Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehri and ambassadors of several countries.

Tight security measures have been taken to ensure smooth inauguration of exports through the Gwadar Port.

Earlier, contingents of Special Security Division of Pakistan Army provided security to the trade convoy.

Chinese vessels are ready at the Gwadar Port for shipment of Chinese goods to Middle East and African countries.

The trade convoy, comprising 60 containers, started its journey to Pakistan from Kashgar through western route and arrived in Quetta in the first phase and later departed for Gwadar. The second trade convoy comprising over 100 containers arrived in Gwadar on Saturday.

On Friday, a large number of people participated in a rally organised by Gwadar Yakjehti Council in the port city. The participants marched on different roads of Gwadar carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans welcoming the trade.
