Half of Karachi still without electricity after 11 hours

KARACHI: The supply of electricity has started to restore after suspension of at least eight hours following tripping of 500 KV transmission line reportedly due to severe weather conditions, ARY News reported.

Electricity has been restored to Sukkur, Hyderabad and some other areas of Sindh.

According to spokesman for National Transmission and Despatch Company, power has been restored on Guddu-Dadu transmission lines.

Generation will start again at Jamshoro and Huco power plants.

The spokesman said electricity is also being provided to Karachi phased wise.

Various areas of Karachi including Gulshan, Nazimabad, Orangi, Jamshed Town, Korangi, PECHS, Shah Faisal and Gulshan-e-Maymar are still without electricity.

According to K-Electric spokesperson, power has been restored partially in the city. While 50 percent are still under darkness where power will be restored shortly.

He said in the phase first electricity in key areas where hospitals and sensitive installations are located has been restored.

Water supply to Karachi has also been disrupted due to power breakdown. Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) spokesperson 320 million gallons of supply has been suspended to the city.
