Haqqani network logistics commander killed in US drone strike in Paktika

PESHAWAR: Sirajuddin Khademi, a senior commander of the Haqqani militant network, was killed in a US drone attack in Afghanistan’s Paktika province, Afghan and international media reports said on Thursday.

Sirajuddin Khademi, said to be a logistics commander of the dreaded Haqqani network and member of the Quetta Shura in the southeastern Afghan province of Paktika, media reports said.

In an early morning drone strike Khademi was killed along with another person, regional police commander Assadullah Sherzad, told Afghan media.

The Afghan Taliban, with which the Haqqani network has been linked, have yet to confirm the key commander’s killing in the drone raid.

Afghan media citing the provincial government media office, said the airstrike was carried out late Tuesday night in Sarwaza district.

The airstrike also destroyed some weapons belonging to the network.
