HYDERABAD: Police arrested an armed man on Saturday who held a woman and two children – reportedly his own wife and children – hostage for several hours in the neighbourhood of Qasimabad in Hyderabad.

Dr Ibrahim, the hijacker kept the hostages in his captivity in a flat of an apartment, however, the situation turned uncertain when he started firing at regular intervals, sending a wave of panic amongst the residents of the area.

Meanwhile, police and Rangers officials surrounded the apartment in which the entire hostage situation was being unfolded and started negotiations for the release of the hostages.

The hijacker had threatened that if anyone tried to enter the flat forcibly, he would kill everyone including him.

However, as soon as Dr Ibrahim came out of the flat in a bid to speak to the media, police officials arrested him, recovered a pistol from his possession and took him to an undisclosed location

According to SSP, Dr Ibrahim was a mentally unstable, a claim which the hijacker constantly denied.

Television footage earlier showed the hijacker talking to Ayaz Latif Palijo, President Qaumi Awami Tehreek (QAT) who also reached Qasimabad.

Dr Ibrahim’s motive behind creating a hostage situation remained unclear but he continuously protested about social injustices against him.
