Indian Coast Guard deny blowing up Pakistani boat

The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Indian Coast Guard has denied the claims which suggest that the Pakistani boat which was blown up on the New year’s eve was an act carried out by his men, an Indian media report said.

According to a report of an Indian Express website, DIG B.K. Loshali was quoted as saying “I hope you remember 31st December night… we blew off that Pakistan… We have blown them off… I was there at Gandhinagar and I told at night, blow the boat off. We don’t want to serve them biryani…”

However the New Delhi’s official statement over the matter was a strong denial to the media report. Questioning the authenticity of the claims, the government officials stated that the boat had ‘suspected terror links’ and that the crew had committed suicide by setting the vessel on fire.

A video that went viral on the social media confirmed the statements published on the Indian Express website.

In the video, the DIG of Indian Coast Guard can be seen delivering the above mentioned statement during a launching ceremony.

Loshali later rebuffed the media report terming it as ‘not factual’ and denied giving any such statements.

Indian officials had earlier claimed that Coast Guard ships and aircraft had tried to intercept the boat near the maritime border with Pakistan, around 365 kilometres from the coastal state of Gujarat, following an intelligence tip-off.

It was further stated that the boat carrying suspected terrorists was given a warning by the Indian Coast Guard to change its course, but the crew members set it on fire instead which led to its sinking after a loud explosion.
