SRINAGAR: Indian forces martyred a Kashmiri youth in Badgam district of the disputed valley of Kashmir on Friday.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the troops killed the youth during a siege and search operation at Gulzarpora in Muchwa area of the district.
Meanwhile, the operation continued till reports last came in.
Kashmir has been divided between India and Pakistan since the end of British colonial rule in 1947. Both claim the territory in full.
Several groups have fought for decades the 500,000 Indian troops deployed in the territory, demanding independence for the Himalayan region or a merger of the territory with Pakistan.
Tens of thousands, mostly civilians, have been killed in the fighting for their freedom in the valley.
Tensions between Pakistan and India surged due to increasing violence in Kashmir and after an uptick in military activity by both sides across the disputed border, known as the Line of Control (LoC).
The United Nations (UN) repeatedly urged them to remain calm, seeking to prevent any sort of dangerous rhetoric between the neighbours.
Repeated outbreaks of cross-border firing between both sides so far reported deaths and injuries.
