ATC grants 90 days custody of Dr Asim Hussain to Rangers

KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court granted 90 days custody of former petroleum minister Dr. Asim Hussain to Rangers, ARY News reported on Thursday.

Dr Asim Hussain a close aide of former president Asif Ali Zardari, was arrested by the law enforces in plain clothes on Wednesday from Clifton office of the Higher Education Commission (HEC). He was handed over to Rangers after interrogation.

Asim Hussain has been charged of corruption and facilitating terrorists, sources said. He was produced before ATC-III in Karachi. The Rangers sought 90-day preventive detention of Dr Asim Hussain under Section 11-EEEE of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997. The court granted 90 days remand to the paramilitary law enforcement agency.

According to sources, Asif Ali Zardari’s close aide has been handed over to the custody of Rangers. Dr Asim Hussain had been arrested last night from his office by intelligence agencies personnel.

Intelligence agencies personnel reached Dr Asim Hussain’s office yesterday and after questioning the former federal minister, took important documentary evidence in their custody. Dr Asim has been arrested on grounds of corruption allegations relating to the LNG scandal, lands which belonged to the Sindh government and CNG stations.

Intelligence agencies handed over Dr Asim Hussain on Thursday morning at 9 am to the Rangers personnel who will most likely present him at the Anti Terrorism Court and seek a 90 day remand.
