Irrfan Khan in trouble after criticism on Islamic practices
Khan, in a recent interview, said that rather than fasting, people should self-introspect, reported the Times of India.
The actor went on to say that animals are being slaughtered in the name of qurbaani. Elaborating further, Irrfan said that qurbaani is to sacrifice something close to you instead of a sheep or goat.
He remarked that nowadays the relevance behind religious activities is lost and people perform them without knowing the actual message behind them.
Adding fuel to the fire, Irrfan Khan said that Muslims have made a mockery of Muharram and while it is meant for mourning, people celebrate it like a festival.
He also criticised Muslim leaders for not speaking up on the issue of terrorism and also asked the general public to question politicians over this issue.
The remarks of the actor were quick to be responded by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) member Zafaryab Gilabi, who condemned the actor by saying that he is not a religious leader and his advice is not needed.
Maulana Khatri, secretary of Jamaat-e-Ulema-e-Hind also responded to the actors comment by saying that Irrfan Khan must concentrate on his career and should refrain from making such proclamations.
Pakistani TV star Saba Qamar is also set to star opposite Irrfan Khan in upcoming Indian movie.
Saba Qamar has dominated Pakistan’s drama industry for long hence it came as no surprise when the actress admitted she will star in an upcoming Bollywood project.
Her Bollywood debut film is a comedy based on social issues. The actual plot has not yet been revealed.
