Earthquake in Abbottabad claims four lives

PAKISTAN: Northern areas of Pakistan including Islamabad, Rawalpindi experienced mild quakes as an 5.5 earthquake shook the cities early on Saturday morning. Four people in Abbottabad succumbed to the earthquake and died.

With the passing of another injured victim of the earthquake in Abbotabad, the number of dead amounted to 4.

Islamabad, Rawalpindi. Murree, Haripur, Battagram, Mardan and Azad Kashmir experienced the quakes. Apart from these cities, parts of Gujranwala and its surrounding areas also experienced mild shakes. The earthquake induced fear and shock among people of these areas, who were forced to come out of their homes and recite the Kalima. The earthquake’s epicenter was located at north-east to Islamabad and was measured at 10 feet underground.

As per the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake was measured at 5.3 magnitude. However, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) the earthquake was measured at a magnitude of 5.5 on the Richter scale.
