Justice Saqib takes oath as acting CJP

ISLAMABAD: Justice Saqib Nisar on Saturday took oath as acting Chief Justice of Pakistan, ARY News reported.

Justice Saqib Nisar will serve as the acting apex judge during the absence of Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, who left for Turkey to take part in the annual celebrations of the Turkish Constitutional Court.

Acting Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, replying a question while talking to media after the oath-taking ceremony, said that the judicial commission to probe Panama Leaks will be formed when Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali will return from Turkey.

News of the Chief Justice’s departure to Turkey for a week-long trip has caused quite a stir among political circles in the country. He departed at a crucial time when opposition parties, especially PTI Chairman Imran Khan, have called for a judicial commission supervised by the Chief Justice to probe PM Nawaz for the Panama papers controversy.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, addressing the nation on Friday, said that he would write a letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to form a judicial commission to probe the allegations. He also said that if any allegation against him was proven, he would resign from the post of Prime Minister without a second’s delay.
