India – a country obsessed with light skin tone – has seen many of its leading actors endorsing such brands with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, John Abraham, Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor to name a few.

However, there have been figures who were not comfortable taking forth the practice. Kangana Ranaut comes as the latest to reject an offer to become face of the beauty product.

Kangana said: I have never understood the concept of fairness, ever since I was a kid.

“Especially in case of being a celeb, what example I would be setting for younger people by endorsing such brands?” she questioned.

The actress said that she had no regrets about refusing to endorse the product.

Ranaut also revealed that her sister Rangoli Ranaut is dusky, yet beautiful, and that by going ahead with such an offer she might have insulted her in a way.

“If I can’t do this to my sister, how can I do this to the entire nation!” she remarked.

When asked that some other leading names are endorsing such brands, she replied, “This is about my values. If others are doing it then it’s ‘highly irresponsible’ on their part.

“If they consider it fine, I can’t make them change their opinion”, said the actress. “However, people should have the responsibility for their actions.”

Earlier to her, Chitrangada Singh, Ranbir Kapoor and Esha Gupta have also rejected similar offers.
