Army, Police, Rangers in a joint operation to counter Karachi Airport attack

KARACHI: The contingents of Pakistan Army have reached  Karachi Airport’s old terminal to conduct operation against terrorist, ARY News reported.

Unknown armed assailants launched attack at Terminal-1 of Karachi Airport with grenades and gunshots on Sunday night.

According to sources, around 10-15 militants entered in the Karachi Airport’s old terminal carrying heavy arm and ammunition and started gun battle with the security forces.

The terrorists attacked airport with hand grenades and opened fire killing five person including 4-ASF officers and one official of Pakistan International Airline (PIA).

The attack has caused damage to three  aircrafts as fire erupted in the airport parking area, one of the aircraft was of foreign country, sources revealed.

Prime Minister Mian Mohammad Nawaz Shairf contacted DG Rangers Rizwan Akhtar and advised to take immediate measures to counter the attack.

Meanwhile, Defense Minister  Khawaja Asif has ordered for complete investigation of incident.

Police, Rangers have surrounded the airport and all the roads surrounding to Karachi Airport have been blocked.

All the flights have been suspended and Red Alert has been issued on airports countrywide.
