KARACHI: At least four people were killed and 11 injured when a ‘speeding’ bus ran over people standing at a bus stop along an under-construction University Road, ARY News reported.

According to initial reports, a female student of the University of Karachi was also among the injured. The incident occurred near Baitul Mukarram mosque in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area, where people were awaiting at the bus stop when speeding public transport bus, bearing registration number PE-4042, ran over them.

Passers-by and pedestrians lost their calm after the accident that believed to have occurred due to negligence of bus driver. Angry protesters staged sit-in at the University road demanding arrest of the bus driver.

Commuters face regular problems on the University since its repair work started a month ago. The University Road is being reconstructed at a cost of Rs 884 million and it is expected to be completed by June this year.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has taken notice and instructed  DIG Traffic to reach the site of the incident and directed to arrest the bus driver at the earliest.
