KARACHI: Police has blamed the negligence of the local hotel administration for the fire which claimed the lives of 12 people and injured 49 others, ARY News reported.

Police submitted the challan 75 days since the fire incident took place. It was stated that only a CCTV camera operator was sitting inside the hotel’s control room when the fire erupted and he was incapable of dealing with the fire safety.

According to the chargesheet submitted by the police, the smoke detecting system was only installed at the mezzanine and first floor of the hotel. The chargesheet stated that the situation got worse as the hotel employees tried to tackle the fire on their own.

The air conditioning system of the hotel was not shut down by the management after which the smoke spread through the entire building. It was also stated that the fire department was called to the scene at 03.15 am.

The civil defence documents provided by the hotel administration could not be verified as well, the charge-sheet further mentioned.

The hotel’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Zubairuddin, Managing Director Muzaffar, Chief Engineer Arshad, Shift Incharge Pervez and Security Incharge Saad have been accused of negligence by the investigators.
