Karachi: Quintuplets lose battle for life after three days

Hospital sources said the children’s health was poor due to their premature birth.

The 32-year-old women delivered at the Darul Sehat hospital located in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.  She hailed from Gwader, Balochistan and was admitted to the hospital by MPA Mir Hammal Kalmati.

The children include three girls and two boys.  They were under the supervision of Dr. Shahzad and Dr. Alia Naseem and and said to be in good health.

“The mother gave birth to premature babies [26 weeks] in a normal delivery,” said consultant paediatrician Dr Shireen Qasim. “One of the girls and both the boys weigh 0.6 kilogrammes each whereas the remaining girls weigh 0.7kg and 0.8kg.”

The doctors had placed the children under intensive care and the next 24 hours are critical.
