Karachi: Taliban militant arrested, robbers killed in encounter

According to details, police carried out a raid near Passport Office and arrested Tehreek-e-Taliban Khan Zaman Group militant Muneer Ahmed alias Mufti.

Weapons, detonators, two cellphones and other goods were recovered from the arrested militant.

SSP South Dr. Mohammad Farooq said that Ahmed is a close accomplice of his leader Khan Zaman. He went on to say that the arrested militant used to facilitate terrorists and was also involved in extortion cases.

Meanwhile, three suspected street criminals identified as Anas, Arif and Waseem were arrested by Darakhshan Police. The law enforcement agencies said that the nabbed persons confessed of killing a woman and injuring a man while committing a robbery.

Police said that their gang comprised of seven people and two of their partners-in-crime have already been arrested.

Six dacoits barged into a home of a retired steel mills officer, located at Nazimabad Block-Q, and started looting the house after holding the entire family hostage on gun point.

The cops arrived at the house after being informed of the crime. An exchange of fire took place between the robbers and the police after which two looters were killed whereas a police officer named Mohammad Azam was injured.
