Khan aims at 2019 to inaugurate Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital Karachi

KARACHI: Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan on Thursday laid the foundation stone of the third Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre in the city.

“We will try to inaugurate the Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital in Karachi by December 29, 2019,” said Imran Khan while addressing a large gathering after the groundbreaking event.

While recalling how economically deprived people with big hearts in Pakistan contributed for his cancer hospitals instead of the well-off segment of the society, he said, “When I first started the hospital, no one thought of a cancer hospital in Pakistan.”

“For an ordinary person cancer treatment is very expensive and so, 90% of them cannot afford it,” Khan said “but at SKMCH&RC” he added, “whether you have money or not, you get the same medical treatment.”

Chairman PTI said that ‘VIP culture’ could not breathe in his hospitals and therefore, no discrimination on the grounds of social status would be found at SKMCH&RC.

“Some 75% patients receive free treatment at our hospitals,” Khan said while explaining the need to help unprivileged people in Pakistan when it comes to combating cancer.

He added, “SKMCH&RC has spent Rs 26 billion in free cancer treatment.”

On this occasion, Imran Khan recalled the hard times in the past when his hospital lost a major chunk of donation due to political targeting by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

“Despite all the crises, we continued to expand our hospitals in different cities of the country.”

Imran khan also lauded the Pakistani nation and his donors for constantly supporting him and making SKMCH&RC possible and successful.

The groundbreaking ceremony of the SKMCH&RC in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) City was being organised by the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust.
