Land allotted to Raheel Sharif under constitutional provision: ISPR

RAWALPINDI: Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Thursday confirmed the allotment of land to former Chief of Army Staff General (retd) Raheel Sharif and maintained that the allotment was through a constitutional provision.

“Issue of allotment of agricultural land to army officers and soldiers is being debated and conjenctured for last few days. In this regard it may be known that such allotments are through constitutional provision. Allotment to former COAS General Raheel Sharif (retd) is also under same provision and through government/ army procedures” read the press release issued by DG ISPR.

The ISPR statement added that the debate with the attempt to malign the army has the potential to create misunderstandings between state institutions and are detrimental to the existing cohesion.

A number of local media outlets reported and debated allotment of 868 kanals and 10 marlas of land (about 90 acres) on Lahore’s Bedian Road to the ex-COAS Raheel Sharif.

General Raheel Sharif, who started and led Operation Zarb-e-Azb in the country, retired from his post on November 29, 2016, handing over the command of Pakistan army to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
