Lawyer shot dead in Karachi, motorcycle with fake license plate used in attack

KARACHI: A lawyer has become a latest prey of “unidentified” gunmen in the metropolis and lost his life, ARY News reported.

Lawyer Syed Ameer Haider Shah was targeted by armed men near Hasan Square, a busy thoroughfare, this evening. He was aboard a car when the gunmen attacked him. He died on the spot.

His car bore a registration no. APR-402.

Mr. Haider was the former joint secretary of Karachi Bar.

Rescue team and police shortly reached and cordoned off the spot. The gunmen fled after the shooting.

Traffic remained jam at the busy traffic artery of the city for an hour after the incident.

Police said they were investigating the incident. The victim’s body was moved to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

The Rangers are conducting raids on daily basis in the city and arresting scores of suspects from different areas as part of their ongoing operation against criminals and terrrorists.

Recently, MQM MNA Rasheed Godil was also targeted in a broad daylight and he had sustained serious bullet wounds. However, he is now recuperating fast. Some quarters have raised concerns over Rangers operation that “failed” to rein in target killers.

Investigating officers have stated that the case is being investigated through different angles.

The officials stated that the attackers used a fake license plate, numbered KHT 6612, on the motorcycle.

“We recovered the motorcycle which had license plate numbered KHT 6612 from Lyari and took its owner into custody. However, we found out that it has not been used for more than five days”, investigators stated.

The investigators also said that one of the eye-witnesses will help them prepare the sketch of the suspects.
