At least 23 killed in Shikarpur Imambargah blast

SHIKARPUR: At least 23 people were killed and 40 others were wounded in an explosion at an Imambargah of Shikarpur on Friday, ARY News reports.

The blast took place at Karbala-e-Moalla, located at Lakhi Dar area of the city during the Friday prayers.

Law enforcement agencies and rescue teams rushed to the scene after the blast. The area has been sealed by the law enforcers.

The wounded were shifted to Civil Hospital Shikarpur for treatment. Chaotic scenes were witnessed at the hospital where large number of people have gathered to find their loved ones.

Some of the injured are said to be shifted to Chandka Medical College Hospital of Larkana and Civil Hospital Sukkur due to the seriousness of their injuries.

Provincial Health Ministry has declared emergency in the hospitals of the city and surrounding areas. The details of the injured persons are being collected.

Police has said that the incident seems to be a suicide bombing. SSP Shikarpur Saqib Ismail, talking to ARY News, has said that around 40 people have been injured in the incident. Replying to a question about the nature of the blast, the police official said that the incident being investigated to know the nature of the explosion.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has condemned the suicide bombing and summoned a report of the incident. He has directed the concerned authorities to provide all facilities to the affected persons.
