Nisar gets legal notice over Dr. Qadeer’s ‘house arrest’

LAHORE: A Lahore High Court Bar official has sent a legal notice to Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan for keeping Pakistani scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan under house arrest ‘in the name of security’, ARY News reported.

The notice was sent by co-chairperson LHC Bar Human Rights Cell Ashraf Asmi. He said the scientist has been facing movement restriction for years.

He claimed that governments since Musharraf regime have kept Dr. Qadeer under virtual detention at the behest of United States.

He said Dr. Qadeer was facing immense difficulties in his daily life due to imposed restrictions. The notice demanded Chaudhary Nisar to withdraw all curbs on the scientist otherwise the court will be approached for legal action.

Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan has been under house arrest ever since 2004, although he continues to move around, allowed to make phone calls and receive visitors.
