Lines Area corruption scam: SHC rejects bail pleas of seven accused

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday rejected bail pleas of seven officials of the Lines Area Re-development Project, ARY News reports.

The accused were arrested by the Rangers for their alleged involvement in corrupt practices.
The bench after hearing arguments of the lawyers rejected bail petitions of the accused including deputy director Fareed Yousufani, Waseem Iqbal, Shahid Ata Abbas and others.

The seven officials of the Lines Area Project were arrested by the Rangers and handed over to police for their alleged involvement in over four billion rupees corruption scam.

The project officials were said to be involved in the illegal bifurcation,  amalgamation and allotment of auction plots in the Lines Area Re-development Project through china cutting to the builder and encroachment mafias, by-passing the auction. These activities have caused a loss of billions of rupees to the national exchequer.

According to the sources of investigation agencies, the illegal land allotment has resulted in the generation of funds for financing terrorist activities and unregulated settlements for terrorists.
