Swati confesses to murdering Parveen Rehman

KARACHI: Raheem Swati, the prime accused in the murder case of director of Orangi Pilot Project (OPP) Parveen Rehman, has confessed to the killing during initial interrogation, ARY News reported.

The renowned social activist who campaigned for the rights of slum dwellers was gunned down on March 13, 2013. She was an outspoken critic of land mafia and their political patrons.

Swati in his confessional statement also disclosed the names of his accomplices in the murder saying that he killed the activist along with Ayaz Shamzai. He said that Rehman was already on the hit-list, while she had also refused to allot them land to set up a judo karate center.

He said that riots in Qasba Colony, Orangi Town and Kati Pahari benefited various political parties.

The suspect was arrested on Friday night from Mangophir area in a joint raid by law-enforcement agencies.
