The students were protesting outside the press club where they also set fire to tyres and blocked the College Road. They carried placards and strongly condemned the decision of the government.
The protestors included students, members of the civil society and trader associations, who urged the Punjab government to restore the status of the Rasul College to a university.
Established in 1873, the Government College of Technology was transformed into University of Engineering and Technology Rasul in April 2014, by the orders of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
However, with the closure of the varsity the classes have been shifted to other cities and admissions stopped which has caused difficulties for the students enrolled.
