Maulana Mirza Yousuf taken into custody in Karachi

KARACHI: Law enforcement agencies on late Saturday took into custody Maulana Mirza Yousuf Hussain alongside detaining over two dozen suspects in different raids, ARY News reported.

The raid to arrest Maulana Hussain was conducted at the scholar’s residence in Nazimabad area by Police and Rangers. Maulana Hussain is said to be Khateeb (Speaker) of Masjid Noor-e-Iman.

The law enforcers have not disclosed the whereabouts of the religious leader where he is being interrogated. It may be noted that Hussain was also among the protesters in Ancholi the other day against the arrest of former Senator Faisal Raza Abidi.

Police and Rangers had taken into custody Abidi, the  former Pakistan Peoples’s Party leader and Senator, into custody after carrying out a search operation at his residence in New Rizvia Society area.

Sources said that weapons were found from Abidi’s home as well, but later after the investigation, the arms were found to be licensed.

Police had claimed that Abidi was arrested in respect of recent firing and terrorism incidents in the city. He will also be questioned over targeted killings in Central and East districts of Karachi.
