The government of Sindh has said that the matter is not their jurisdiction, while the Minister of Interior also cannot issue any such directive. The release of Akhtar is the sole prerogative and at t the discretion of the court.
The Sindh government consulted constitutional and legal experts which were of the opinion that cases were lodged under the ATA under which parole to an under-trial prisoner cannot be issued.
Akhtar who is currently imprisoned has asked for facilities to run the municipal affairs from inside his prison cell.
