A family court was hearing a case against the actress filed against by her alleged husband Ateeq-ur-Rehman who has claimed that Meera had contracted another marriage while still being solemnised with him.
Meera had earlier claimed that she was never married to Ateeq-ur-Rehman, and that he had forged the ‘nikkah nama’ (marriage contract) which was a severe crime. Therefore, she has urged the court to declare the marriage as null and void.
The Lollywood actress was due to appear in the court today to record a statement, but instead submitted an application that she could not appear due to security concerns. She requested the court to allow her to submit the statement via video link.
She said that various artists and celebrities were being attacked across the country, which had caused great insecurity among her, and that she should be exempted from personal appearance in further proceedings.
The court adjourned the proceedings till 26th September and issued notice to Ateeq-ur-Rehman to appear at the next hearing.
