Military to be deployed in NA-122, NA-144 by-polls: ECP

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan Thursday decided to deploy military during by-elections in NA-122 Lahore and NA-144 Okara, ARY News reported.

Military troops will be deployed inside and outside the polling stations in both the constituencies, said the ECP. The decision was made upon the request of polling officers.

Punjab Rangers and police will also be assisting the maintenance of law and order during the by-polls.

According to the ECP, returning officers (ROs) have been given powers of a Grade-1 Magistrate, while a control room is also being established at the ECP building to monitor the by-elections.

On the other hand, the ECP served notices to Ayaz Sadiq and Aleem Khan for violating the code of conduct for by-polls.

It sought explanation from the candidates for spending more than Rs 15 lac.
