The Command and Control Center at Karachi’s Civic Center was until now being run by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation in cooperation with Karachi police. Whereas, the consolidated system would now enable the CPO to monitor the city through another 1240 CCTV cameras.

Commandant Special Security Unit (SSU), Maqsood Ahmed said the step was taken to improve security of the city by consolidating the monitoring system under one umbrella.

“New arrangements would help reduce street crimes and arrest culprits through effective monitoring,” he said.

Ahmed said apart from this, efforts were underway to increase number of high-resolution CCTV cameras across the city.

The commandant said CPO was mulling over increase in number of high-quality CCTV cameras.
