Monopoly to secretly include real money!

Toy maker Hasbro is celebrating board game’s 80th anniversary in France by placing real cash inside a few chosen game boxes.

Monopoly fans in France better brace themselves for some exciting news. Manufacturers of the Monopoly game are now going to provide 80 lucky buyers with real cash to play the game with. This decision has been reached to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Monopoly in France.

The major jackpot will be won by only one lucky person, which includes a sum total of 20,580 euros ($23,268). In addition, 10 sets will contain five real 20-euro notes, two 50-euro notes and one 100-euro note. These are the details that were disclosed by representatives of Hasbro France.

“We wanted to do something unique,” said Florence Gaillard, brand manager at Hasbro France, which rolled out the prize sets from Monday.“When we asked our French customers, they told us they wanted to find real money in their Monopoly boxes,” she added.

Of course as one can obviously predict, the operation to secretly stack the notes and deliver them throughout France involved great secrecy and was carried out in privacy.

The game of Monopoly was invented after The Great Depression in the United States. The object of the game is to buy properties of varying quality and price. Houses and hotels can be constructed on your property empire. If an opponent is unlucky enough to land on your owned house or hotel, they have to pay up. The winner is the last man with any wad of cash in his/her pocket!

Monopoly is an immensely popular game around the world. It sells more than 500,000 sets each year in France. Such is the board game’s universal appeal that it has been translated into forty-three different languages and currently exists in 111 countries. The 80 lucky sets are hidden within 30,000 boxes of different types of game – classic, junior, electronic and “vintage”.

Even the simplest game of Monopoly can stretch to hours. The longest game in history stretched to around seventy straight days, according to Hasbro website. So, if you’re in France and reading this, now would be the time to start spending some real money and purchasing the board game! Who knows, you might win a jackpot, for real!
