MQM announces two-day mourning over worker’s death in custody

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has announced two-day mourning over the death of a party worker in police custody in Karachi, ARY News reported on Wednesday.

MQM Rabita Committee in a statement has announced two-day mourning and called the business community and transporters to close their businesses on Wednesday and Thursday.

A young man Waseem who was arrested by Aziz Bhatti police for was died in police custody. Waseem Dehlvi was said to be a member of Baldia sector of MQM.

An initial postmortem report of deceased MQM worker Muhammad Waseem revealed signs of torture on his body.

AIG Sindh police Ghulam Qadir Thebo has suspended SHO Aziz Bhatti police station. Four police officers who were investigating Waseem were also taken into custody, police sources said.

MQM chief Altaf Hussain in a statement has expressed his condolences with the family of deceased party worker.

The relatives of the deceased this morning reached Jinnah Hospital when the body was being transferred to the hospital. The relatives alleged that Waseem was tortured to death by policemen.
