MQM denies Rizwan Qureshi's affiliation with party

KARACHI: Mutahidda Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) top decision-making body Rabita Committee has rejected Rizwan Qureshi, key accused in Baldia factory fire case, having any affiliation with the MQM, ARY News reported.

In a statement issued Saturday, the Rabita Committee said MQM is a party of millions of people, hence any one could pretend to be among party ranks.

The MQM also demanded that Qureshi should be hanged in public for his heinous offence.

On the other side, Governor Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ibad said the Baldia factory case was sub-judice, therefore “discussion on the issue should be avoided.”

In a startling revelation in a Baldia factory fire case, a joint investigation report by law enforcement agency on Friday declared that the factory blaze was an act of ‘foul play’, instead of an incident, after its owner refused to pay an extortion amount.

The report said it was an organized crime. A top leader of a political party had sought Rs 200 million from the Baldia factory owner. Upon refusal, a chemical substance was thrown in the factory to set it on fire, which later claimed at least 260 lives.
