MQM leaders meet US Consular General to discuss ongoing situation

FAROOQ SATTAR & NASRIN JALIL

KARACHI: Senior leaders of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Farooq Sattar and Nasreen Jalil, on Sunday met with United States Consul General Brian Heath in Karachi and exchanged views on the current situation being faced by MQM, ARY News reported.

Sources said MQM leadership had a meeting with US Consular General where adversities being faced by MQM were discussed.

This should be noted that Altaf Hussain’s anti-Pakistan speech few days back has stirred up a tremendous reaction of the establishment and political parties of Pakistan in which hundreds of MQM offices established on ‘illegal’ lands across Sindh have been demolished, demands are being made by leaders of different political parties to remove Altaf from the party, government has decided to pursue case against MQM chief in UK and a large number of MQM workers and leaders have been arrested.

A petition has also feen filed in Supreme Court demanding ban on MQM. While, another petition has been filed in Lahore High Court demanding to place MQM leaders on Exit Control List.

The meeting between MQM leadership and US Consul General has been kept secret. While, Nasreen Jalil, being a senator, bound to inform relevant institutions including office of foreign ministry about any such meeting.

The MQM leaders have prayed US to bail them out of this situation.

On the other hand, Chairman Pak Sarzameen Party Mustafa Kamal has told ARY News that it was not the first time that MQM leaders were contacting US. They had had meetings with US State Department officials in the past as well.
