MQM leadership decides not to resign from their seats

Speaking to media representatives in Karachi today, the senior MQM leader Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hassan clarified that even on ethical grounds; no one could ask them to resign from their assembly seats since the party never supported terrorism or terror promoters.

“Whoever is found involved in a crime, MQM will raise its voice against that element,” Izhar along with MQM leader Faisal Sabzwari told media today after the parliamentary party meeting.

He said that the people of Pakistan, particularly in Karachi, gave Muttahida a clear mandate to them for chanting ‘Long Live Pakistan’.

Only, if people could not continue their trust in MQM and its leadership, we could think about resigning, claimed the MQM leader.

Izhar said party MPAs were not thinking about leaving their positions when the circumstances were constantly changing within and around the party.

While giving details about a major chunk of the missing party leadership, the Muttahida representative told reporters that some 11 of MQM members were abroad and that the party decision makers in Karachi were in contact with them.

“One of our member of the Sindh Assembly was in prison,” said Izhar while talking about Karachi Mayor and MQM leader Wasim Akhtar currently imprisoned in Karachi Central Prison on a May 12 Case.

The senior MQM leaders also vowed to put party’s focus once again on the release of its arrested workers during their meeting today.

Regarding the resignation of another MQM leader Erum Farooqi, he said, she was still a member of the MQM Pakistan since the party leadership was yet to receive a formal letter of resignation on her behalf.

However, Erum Farooqi while talking to ARY News soon after Izhar-ul-Hassan’s press briefing confirmed that her resignation already rests with Dr Farooq Sattar.
