MQM office raided after fire: Rangers

KARACHI: Paramilitary Rangers in a statement over the raid on a party office of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has said that the raid was conducted after firing over the law enforcement personnel from the building, ARY News reported on Thursday.

MQM Chief Altaf Hussain called on workers to stage sit-ins across Karachi to protest against the arrest of party workers during a raid on a party office in Gulshan-i-Maymar on Wednesday night.

Some 30 workers of the MQM were arrested in a raid carried out by Sindh Rangers.

A spokesman of Rangers stated that the raid on the MQM office was not planned but conducted after firing at the law enforcers.

A team of Sindh Rangers was on routine patrolling in Gulshan-i-Maymar at 8:00 pm when fire opened at Rangers personnel from a building in the area, the statement said.

The Rangers cordoned off the building and detained 23 suspects, which were taken to an undisclosed place.

The innocent persons will be released after questioning and action will be taken against the accused according to the law, the spokesman said.
