KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan on Sunday cancelled the basic membership of parliamentarian Ali Raza Abidi and expelled him from the party.
Abidi, who is a member of National Assembly from NA-251 Karachi, has also been asked to submit his resignation from the seat.
He has been expelled from the party for violating party policy which was adopted after August 22, when the party disassociated from MQM founder Altaf Hussain.
A statement by the MQM-P said that Abidi was expelled for breaching the party policy several times despite warning. The decision was taken during a meeting of party’s coordination committee.
The London-based faction of the MQM denounced the decision. Wasay Jalil issued a statement on Twitter that the MQM-P has no right or any legal standing to expel him.
