MQM Pakistan will not let rigging take place in census: Farooq Sattar

KARACHI: Chief of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan Farooq Sattar on Sunday said his party would not let rigging take place in upcoming census, ARY News reported.

“Residents of Sindh, specially Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpur Khas, Sukkur and Nawabshah, should fully participate in the census to make it realistic,” he said addressing a joint meeting of MQM Pakistan senators and members of national and provincial assemblies here at his party’s temporary headquarters in Pir Ilahi Bukhsh Colony.

He directed his party leaders to spread awareness among masses regarding census. He said chairman of each union council would be focal person of census in his area and would play role to help people regarding participation in census.

Farooq Sattar appealed from masses to fully participate in the census, due to be held between March 5 and 15 this year, to troubleshoot issues faced (by Muhajir community) in the past.

Earlier, he had said he would approach Supreme Court on the issue of census in Sindh.

“We are being deprived of our constitutional right on the issue of census and our reservations are not being addressed. Hence, we have decided to apprise all the situation to the SC,” he said.

Speaking about devolution of powers to Karachi mayor, the MQM Pakistan leader said he had completed the process of legal advice on taking powers for mayor Karachi.

He said Karachi should be given its due right and MQM Pakistan would not rest till getting due right for the megapolis. He also blamed that funds released for different cities in the province were embezzled.

“Where are the Rs90 billion funds released for Larkana? We talk about rights for everyone. When we will have chief minister from our party, we will release Rs190 billion for Larkana and serve Khairpur, Dadu or any other district without any discrimination,” he said.
