MQM protests against disappearance of workers
A large group comprising members of the Rabita Committee, parliamentarians and workers gathered outside the Press Club. The families of those tortured or missing were also present.
The MQM has repeatedly alleged that several of its members are arrested and missing by law enforcement agencies.
They cited the annual report by the US State Department released recently regarding the human rights situation in Pakistan. The report also mentioned that 55 activists of the MQM were killed extra judicially while 151 persons were still missing.
The MQM has been in hot waters over a variety of issues. It has expressed reservations over the ongoing operation in Karachi which it alleges discriminates against it workers.
Several prominent members are faced with a barrage of court cases as well, while it is also concerned about subsequent defections to the newly formed Pak Sarzameen Party formed by Mustafa Kamal.
